Common Plumbing Problems Found Around The Home

There are usually no issues locating a major plumbing problem that has occurred in your home. Whether it is a burst pipe or a blocked drain, these tend to warrant a call to your expert plumber. However, there may be some other common plumbing problems that go unnoticed until it causes larger issues in the home. In this blog, we will go through some of the common plumbing problems that may occur and what you should do in case it’s happening in your home.

Dripping Tap

Usually, when your tap is dripping you just leave it and not think much of it but realistically you shouldn’t. The main issue with a leaking tap is obviously wasting water as one dripping tap can waste approximately 5.7 gallons of water per day. This isn’t the only problem with a leaking tap though, as well as wasting water you are also exposing your surfaces to constant water.

If that surface happens to be metal, there is a high chance that this can create rust in both fixtures and pipes which may also cause more leaks that can go unnoticed until much later. If the surface happens to be wood, instead of it rusting it expands and can even rot. When this happens it can cause mould in your home which can create health problems and is very hard to get rid of. Depending on which type of tap you have, the issue can be easily fixed but it is best to get onto the issue as soon as possible and if you are unsure what to do, call your expert plumber.

Running Toilet

Again, the running toilet is mainly an issue of wasted water. However, running toilets can waste roughly 30 gallons per day instead of the 5.7 that leaking taps can. It is usually best to call your plumber out as they can usually get to the source and fix it easily.

Slow Drains

It may go unnoticed but slow drains may mean a bigger problem is below the surface. It can often mean the water is getting stuck somewhere which is usually due to a clog in the pipes and should be attended to before the pipe is completely blocked and no water or waste can get through. This should warrant a call to the professionals as soon as possible! Whether the slow drain is coming from the bathroom, kitchen or laundry, it needs to be fixed before the issue becomes worse and major work needs to be done to fix the problem.

Low Water Pressure

Low water pressure is not ideal for many reasons. It’s not a good time when showering, watering your garden or even turning on your dishwasher so it should be getting fixed. There can be a few reasons why you have low water pressure, it could be due to issues within your home, your water valve may not be closed completely, it could be due to a blocked pipe or even an issue with the mains. You can check your pressure with the pressure gauge and if you aren’t sure where the issue is coming from then it is best to call the plumber.
